Introductory Meetings, Day 1 | Ghana
Updated: Sep 7, 2019
Today was pretty busy. I went to Korle-Bu Teaching hospital to attend the OB-GYN departmental meeting which included everyone from nurses to doctors to residents to midwives. There were some case presentations by residents. After the meeting I was introduced by the attending physician I’ve been collaborating with (Dr Asah Opoku) to the new head of department, since the one I was in touch with before had been promoted to the overall director of the Korle-Bu hospital. We discussed the study, FDA challenges and commencing the in-depth interviews and training. The head of department mentioned his mentor is a physician at Duke OB-GYN so that was good for discussion. I showed him the Calla and the Pocket Colposcope. His main concern with the Calla was the limited magnification. I showed him the high level magnification with the Pocket and explained that we were trying to integrate the two devices but the study was mainly for cervix visualization which he agreed to.
From here I went to the second clinic site, Greater Accra Regional Hospital. I met the director of the hospital who is also a PI on the study and I worked with his personal assistant for the rest of the day addressing the comments to the FDA, getting documents in order and printing them. I also met with the nurse who is the head of department for the colposcopy unit at Ridge hospital and we discussed starting the in-depth interviews on Thursday
